Dear Sons,

Moms are not perfect.  We want to do the best we can, but we fail.  I cannot promise that I will always do the right thing, always be patient with you, or even always be pleasant to be around.  All moms want to raise their children to be the best they can be, but how to do that is not always clear.  All I can say is that I will try to take my job as your mother seriously.  I won’t consider you just an extra chore I must squeeze into my day.  I will try as often as possible to be purposeful in what we do together, and in how I interact with you.  I want to parent you with planning and forethought and be intentional about what we do.  Of course what we do can be fun, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be meaning behind what we are doing.  I post this blog to keep me accountable and purposeful.  Perhaps, in doing so, I will also be able to help other parents that also want to parent with a purpose.  You are dear to me and I will always love you.

Intentionally yours,

  1. Hi Jess,
I found your blog about 4 days ago, and I’m almost finished reading through all of the archives to the present. I love your parenting philosophies because they so closely match my own. I wanted to know if I could ask your opinion on a parenting matter. It’s a slightly uncomfortable topic for some, so I’d rather not post it here in a public forum. I couldn’t find any contact information for you here on the blog, so maybe you could contact me and we could discuss. My email is lynda_63@ymail.com. Thanks for the great site and keep up the hard work!
